The four week training programme was designed by De Montfort University's
Department of Modern Languages and involved staff from the Business School.
The course was aimed at participants who already possessed English at an
intermediate level and were employed in decision making roles in the weapons
complex or SMEs in the Closed Nuclear Cities. The training drew from a wide
range of teaching methods including group work, role playing, language laboratory
activities, Internet research, self-study and student presentations. Some
of the courses held during the four weeks included: commercial correspondence
development, information analysis and presentations, role-playing and management
strategies, building cross-cultural skills for meetings and negotiations,
and marketing ethics. At the end of the course, each participant was awarded
a Certificate accredited by De Montfort University.
Cost
The DTI funded the 2004 Study Tour for a total cost of £22,050.
