The present project aims at improving the production and design facilities of Akvad Ltd., Sarov. The company was created in 1991 and has developed well within Sarov, where it claims an 80% market share in fire protection, video-monitoring, alarm systems, which represents a yearly turnover of about £ 1m.Today the company's strategy is focusing on new markets segments, and on working with large Russian enterprises and complexes such as banks, airports, public places, etc, a move that will require the development of integrated security systems. The demand of such system is believed to be high, and growing. On the other hand the competition is fierce and dominated by dozens of firms established in the early 1990s in Moscow and St Petersburg. The size of the Russian market for integrated security systems was reckoned to exceed 8356 50 million in 2006; according to the industry magazine Security Systems, the fastest growing segment (10-15% per year) is precisely the segment of integrated systems. The challenge for Akvad is double, since the company wants to move to new markets in terms of both geography (outside Sarov) and product class (with integrated systems rather than specialised ones).
