Practical Outcomes of project
"Development of Production of Heat-insulated and Waterproof Pipes in Snezhinsk"

The project was initiated in 2007 by the Snezhinsk energy saving technologies company SCEST. The company was one of the initiators of «pipe in pipe» technology using spun polyethelene. The design invo lves a covering layer, which is impermeable to water, and a layer of firmly bonded spun polyethylene, which seals the space between the two pipes. The highly adhesive properties of spun polyethelene protect the steel surface of the pipes from corrosion, and the external polyethylene skin protects the polyethelene from mechanical damage and prevents access of moisture from the soil. Pipes manufactured using this technology represent one of the most advanced means for saving energy in the construction industry, increasing serviceable life from 10 – 15 to more than 30 years, while at the same time reducing heat loss from 25 – 30 % to 2 – 3 %. Operating and maintenance costs are also reduced by several times.

The CNCP Programme financed the purchase of additional equipment, which enabled SCEST to begin the production of new items, and also to organise the recycling of polyethylene waste. This both improved the economics of the operation, and also delivered environmental benefits. The total cost of the project amounted to about £ 227,000, of which £ 110,000 was provided by CNCP. Implementing the project led to the creation of 18 new jobs for highly qualified workers.
